Sometimes our water heater may act up, and for many, this is a major problem. We have compiled a list so that you can troubleshoot what is wrong with your water heater.

Look for leaks
The first thing you need to look out for is puddles surrounding your water heater. If this is the case then the chances are good that there is a leak by your water heater. You should look around the TPR valve for additional leakage as this could cause major problems in the long haul.

Shutdown the electricity
The wisest way to check your water heater is to turn off the electricity before you inspect your water heater. You can turn it off by the breaker or by the fuse box.

The sound will lead the way
Different sounds can mean different things when you listen to your water heater. When you turn on your water heater you should pay close attention to what you hear because these are key indicators as to what may be wrong. If you a hear a semi-hard sound coming from the water heater it may be due to the build-up of minerals on the heating element. This can be solved by cleaning both the element and the tank thoroughly. However, when there is a low pitch sound it may be an indicator that sediment is building up in the tank and this can quickly be solved by flushing out the tank.

Be sure to check the water temperature
When troubleshooting your water heater a good indicator to look out for is when there is little to no hot water supply. When you need to check the temperature you can rely on the thermometer for an accurate reading of the water temperature. The ideal temperature for your water heater will be between 120 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. When it is set low there is little chance of corrosion or mineral build-up, however, when it is too high it can cause erosion and build up in the water heater.

Your house is important to you, so you should take care of it while you live there. We are the best plumbers in the area, so whenever there is a problem don’t hesitate to call us. We are always willing to go the extra mile for you.
