3 Common Causes for Plumbing Repair and How to Avoid Them
January 9, 2014
No one ever wants to see water leaking through their ceiling. The only thing that can possibly mean is trouble. While not every disaster is preventable, there are a few things homeowners can do to avoid plumbing repair. We at Tap-Roots are capable of handling anything your pipes throw at us, but you can do your part to side-step a few common issues.
1. Clogged Toilets and Sinks
Typically, it isn’t a matter of if your pipes will clog, it is a matter of when. Richmond, BC plumbers will tell you that a stuffed-up pipe is one of the most common issues homeowners have. Keep your pipes clear by:
- Flushing toilet paper – and only toilet paper
- Avoid pouring cooking oil down your sink
- Regularly flush your kitchen sink with boiling water to free up clogs
- Use a strainer over your shower drain to trap hair and debris
2. Broken Garbage Disposal
Another common plumbing repair involves garbage disposals, which suffer a lot of abuse at the hands of negligent homeowners. Keep fatty meats, stringy vegetables and eggshells out of your drain. You can grind a cup of ice cubes from time to time to help clear out your disposal.
3. Flooding Washing Machine
If your washing machine’s hose bursts, you will have a flood on your hands. This can happen when a rubber hose dries out, which is why we recommend replacing rubber pieces with a steel model instead. You should also have your machine sitting on an overflow tray.
If you do run into any of these issues or other causes for plumbing repair, contact our team at Tap-Roots right away. We can quickly identify and solve your issues. Call us at 604-222-1282.
